Optomap Ultra-Widefield Retinal Imaging – Now Available at Our Practice

We are proud to offer Optomap® ultra-widefield retinal imaging as part of our cadvanced eye examination – a hospital-grade scanning technology that provides a detailed, panoramic view of your retina in just seconds.

What is Optomap?

Optomap is the only clinically validated imaging system that captures up to 82% of your retina (200° view) in a single, non-invasive scan. Traditional retinal photography typically shows only 10–15% of the retina, meaning many important areas remain unseen during a standard exam.

With Optomap, you and your optometrist get a clear, high-resolution “panoramic photo” of the back of your eye, revealing details that would otherwise be missed.

Why Optomap Matters for Your Eye Health

Optomap enhances our ability to detect eye conditions earlier and more accurately, including:

  • Retinal tears, holes, and detachments
  • Glaucoma
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Macular degeneration
  • Other peripheral retinal diseases

It can also sometimes reveal signs of broader health issues, such as cardiovascular disease or certain cancers.

Optomap images provide a reliable digital record that we can use to monitor your eye health year to year.

Who Can Have an Optomap?

Optomap is safe for:

  • Children and adults
  • Pregnant patients (for adults)
  • Patients wearing contact lenses (you can keep them in)

The scan takes only a few seconds, is painless, and typically does not require dilation, though your optometrist may still dilate in some cases.
